Patrícia Correia de Paula Marcoccia

I am a professor at the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG), a public institution located in the state of Paraná, Brazil, where I work on the Pedagogy course and on the Masters and Doctorate programmes in Education. My research focuses on the internationalisation of education, education for global citizenship and neohumanist education. During my post-doctorate at the University of Caxias do Sul, I deepened my investigations into neohumanism and its connections with Paulo Freire’s thinking. As part of this process, I travelled to India to learn about the pedagogical practices of neohumanist schools in the states of West Bengal and Orissa. This experience allowed me to analyse how these institutions integrate spirituality, ethics, cognition and integral human development into their teaching. This study resulted in the publication of an article. I also coordinated a teacher training programme aimed at improving teaching in Brazilian public schools. In this project, I worked directly with educators and students to develop intuitive pedagogical practices and theatre activities, with an emphasis on neohumanist education, promoting innovative methodologies for learning and teacher training. I taught the subject ‘Internationalisation of Education and Neohumanism: Connections between West and East’ on the Masters and Doctorate courses in Education. I am currently supervising research that explores the connections between neo-humanist education and global citizenship, seeking to contribute to a more inclusive, sustainable and transformative pedagogical approach.
